A very special occasion took place at the Royal Academy of Dance on November 16 to honour this year’s award recipient, Mikhail Baryshnikov. Earlier in the day at a special ceremony at Buckingham Palace, Her Majesty The Queen Consort presented him with RAD’s highest award, the QEII, instituted in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

Widely celebrated as one of the greatest dancers of our time, Baryshnikov was presented with the Award in recognition of his immense contribution to ballet and the wider world of dance.

Dame Gillian Lynne was a QEII Award recipient in 2000 and her husband Peter Land joined the afternoon’s celebration with former Award recipients Dame Antoinette Sibley and Dame Monica Mason.

He is seen below with Dame Antoinette Sibley and Dame Monica Mason, alongside Iain Mackay who performed in Gillian Lynne’s Miracle in the Gorbals for Birmingham Royal Ballet.
